LANDOWNER APPRECIATION DAY

May 2nd, 2010

Saturday, June 5, 2010 is the day set for our annual Landowner Appreciation BBQ.  Without the generous cooperation of many landowners in our area the trail system we enjoy would not be possible.  To say “Thank You” we invite all the landowners, and club members to a BBQ at Jim and Nancy Rodgers Farm in West Glover.  Come join us, rain or shine. (we will have a tent)  The fun begins at 4:00 pm.

Second prize of $250.00           Ellen Bean with 4 sixes

MANY HANDS MAKE LIGHT WORK

September 21st, 2009

An energetic group of 10 volunteers showed up on Saturday, Sept. 19 to kick off the fall trail maintenance season.  With this size group short work was made of debrushing a section of Corridor 122 between W. Glover Village and Irasburg.  This section of trail was overdue for debrushing and also needed to be widened and the tree canopy cut back to accommodate our soon to arrive and taller Trail Bully groomer.  A slightly smaller but no less energetic group of volunteers showed up to work on Saturday, Sept. 26.  It was another perfect fall day and a good part of Corridor 122 from where it crosses Route 16 toward the Route 122 crossing on Sheffield Heights was debrushed.  Thanks to everyone who showed up to help out.

LANDOWNER APPRECIATION BBQ

May 13th, 2009

A good group of landowners and club members assembled at Jim & Nancy Rodgers’ on Saturday, June 6, 2009 for the annual landowner appreciation BBQ.  Early in the afternoon the sky was dark and threatening, but the wind came up and not only blew the clouds away, but kept the black flies at bay for the rest of the afternoon.  Phil Brown and John Plaster did the cooking and provided a great meal of roast beef, chicken and pork along with salads, cookies, and beverages. Thanks guys, and a huge THANK YOU to all the generous landowners who allow us to build and maintain trails on their land.

ATV RAFFLE

March 24th, 2009

The Glover Trailwinders’ 8th annual ATV raffle was held on Saturday, May 2, 2009 at the Elk’s Club on the Derby Rd. There was a good crowd on hand to enjoy the dinner, dancing, and of course the raffle.  Thanks to the generosity of so many local businesses there were 82 prizes to being given away, and with only 123 tickets sold, the majority left with a prize.  The 50/50 raffle was won by Nancy Rodgers, and the big winners were:

2009 Sportsman 500 from Desmarais Equipement:  Dan Fournier and Ellen Bean

$400 from the Trailwinders and a sap bucket of gifts from Robbins Electric:  Jeff Bickford and Nicole Rodgers

Weekend vacation home rental from Bud & Barbara Buchanan:  Jeff & Jeanne Cota

Special thanks go out to club VP Dale Perron for the outstanding job of organizing and running this event.  Thanks also to all the club members who help Dale.  Finally, thanks once again to all those who made this event a success by donating the prizes.

A TALE OF TWO BRIDGES

June 19th, 2008

October 18 was a perfect fall day for bridge building, and a strong crew of volunteers showed up on Corriodor 122 in Sheffield to replace a bridge that had deteriorated, and build a bridge on a new section of trail that will get 122 off about .75 miles of town road.  It is great when a big work crew shows up, and the job is so much faster and easier.  While the larger part of the crew worked on the new bridge a smaller crew went to work on the replacement bridge.  Last week two 52′ steel beams were set in place for the new bridge, and on Oct. 18 the decking, rails, and runners were completed.
